8 Baby Steps to Tackle Obesity for the Working Men & Women

Today, I am plunging into a topic that hits close to home for many of us, the battle against the bulge. Whether its juggling deadlines, Zoom calls, and that never-ending to-do list, all while your stomach growls like a hungry bear. Sound familiar? Well, you’re not alone and then we much on chocolates and chips.

Let’s face it, maintaining a healthy lifestyle while navigating the office errands can feel like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded. Let me share a dash of optimism and a scoop of motivation as we embark on 8 baby steps to help us cope with obesity amidst our hectic schedules.

1. Wake Up and Smell the Coffee (or Herbal Tea)

While hitting that snooze button may seem like a tempting escape, resist the urge and greet the day with a warm beverage. Whether it’s a steaming cup coffee or a green tea, kick-starting your morning routine with hydration sets the tone for a day of healthy choices. (You can avoid cream or creamers)

2. Meal Prep and time matters

Who said you need a personal chef to eat like royalty? Spend a part of your weekend whipping up a storm in the kitchen and prep your meals for the week ahead. Not only does this save you time and money, but it also ensures that you’ll have nutritious options at arm’s reach when those mid-week cravings come knocking. (You know the meals you order are either deep fried or come with oil soaking on the top)

3. Move That Body

In between back-to-back meetings and staring at screens, it’s easy to forget that our bodies crave movement. Break free from the shackles of work life and stretch. Walk about a bit. No one is going to shoot you down like a game of duck hunt. If your office is located on lower levels take the stairs instead of the elevator, (Even a trip to the washroom now and then is not just good for your kidneys but also counts as movement).

4. Chew, Don’t Swallow

Let’s be real, we’ve all been guilty of swallowing our meals like we were born without teeth. (Sometimes at our desk table) Either because we have a report for a deadline to complete. But know this your health is your lifetime contract. Slow down for yourself, take a breath, and savor each mouthful like it’s the last slice of pizza on Earth. (Eaton slowly and chewing you food will not only help in digestion it will enable your body to send you signals that you are full so you don’t over eat)

5. Hydrate Like there is no water tomorrow

We often take for granted and replace it with flavored sodas. I am not going to name them but we know who. Look around your desk or your colleagues. You rather keep a trusty water bottle by your side and sip, sip, sip your way to hydration heaven. (Do not overdo it, I recently learned that drinking too much water can also be bad especially in on sitting) Not only does staying hydrated boost your energy levels and improve focus, but it also helps curb those sneaky hunger pangs that often lead to unnecessary snacking. (Your excuse to use the loo)

6. Sleep on Time

In a world where hustling is glory and burnout is congratulated, prioritizing sleep often takes a backseat. But here’s the kicker – quality shut-eye is non-negotiable when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight and overall well-being. Aim for 7-9 hours or at least 6 hours if your work life is hectic. This means keep your phones far from you.

7. Find Your Tribe

They say that birds of a feather flock together, and the same holds true when it comes to our health journey. Surround yourself with a supportive work support who encourage you and celebrate even the smallest achievements. Stick to the ones that say wow have you lost weight even if it’s a few grams and stay away from those jealous types who say oh you have put on weight. (They thrive on your misfortune)

8. Practice Self-Compassion

Finally take a pause. Dubai wasn’t built in a day, and neither will your health transformation. It is the journey not the destination, celebrate every milestone not with junk food, and remember that setbacks happen and only when you fall down can you rise again, a quote from the batman movie. I once saw a video where it asked me to name three people I love the most. And guess what? I none of the three people was me. That’s when the video said to love yourself first.

So there you have it, 8 baby steps to help you cope with obesity amidst the chaos of working life. Remember, you will have hurdles but never quit. I wish you a healthy journey.
